Does God Exist?

August 31st, 2010

Does God exist? Many of us have a hard time responding to this question from others because we have always believed He existed. The Bible doesn’t contain a proof of God’s existence because it assumes that God exists.

Not everyone in our society, however, believes there is a God. This Wednesday’s lesson in the Foundations of Apologetics class will present some ways of thinking and talking about the issue that may encourage someone to seriously consider whether God really does exist. We will consider doubt, morality, beauty, reason, suffering, and the value of proofs.

This topic is also one that can be reassuring to the christian in the face of both strong challenges from atheists, and doubts from within.

If you are interested, it is at 6:30pm, in the college building. If time is tight, feel free to bring dinner and eat during the study.

Foundations of Apologetics

August 12th, 2010

“But in your hearts set apart Christ as LORD. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,” (1 Peter 3:15, NIV)

Many of us are hesitant to talk about our belief in Jesus because we don’t really know what to say, or how to respond to common complaints about “Christianity”.

If you want to prepare yourself to give a reason for the hope that you have in Christ, join us Wednesday nights at 6:30 for the study Foundations of Apologetics, a series from Ravi Zacharias International Ministries. What is apologetics? Apologetics is the field of study about giving a reason to others for why you believe what you believe as a Christian.

With compelling topics such as God, Evil, and Suffering; Seeing and Exploring Cultural Connections; and Reasoning from the Scriptures, this study helps to prepare you with not only knowledge but also the skills to communicate that knowledge in a way that is appealing and effective.

We start Wednesday, August 25, at 6:30pm, in the college house.

Here is the full list of topics and the Publisher’s description:

Introduction to Apologetics: Conversations That Count
Truth and Reality
The Existence of God
Establishing a Worldview
The Trustworthiness of the Christian Scriptures
The Uniqueness of Christ
The Trinity and Apologetics
Pluralism: Do All Religions Lead to the Same Goal?
Faith, Reason, and Integration
God, Evil, and Suffering
Seeing & Exploring Cultural Connections
Reasoning From The Scriptures

The series is designed to introduce a comprehensive range of apologetic arguments and strategies and features lectures by RZIM’s team of apologists, including Ravi Zacharias, Michael Ramsden, Alister McGrath, Amy Orr-Ewing, John Lennox, Stuart McAllister, and L.T. Jeyachandran.

This rigorous curriculum will allow the student to become adept at recognizing the many worldviews influencing our culture and equipped to challenge the assumptions of these worldviews. With compelling topics such as Faith, Reason, and Integration; God, Evil, and Suffering; Seeing and Exploring Cultural Connections; and Reasoning from the Scriptures, each study is available individually allowing you to craft your own experience according to your needs and interests. Complete with an in-depth workbook, the studies foster not only knowledge but also the skills to communicate that knowledge in a way that is winsome and effective.
