History of COM International Bible Study

The First Sunday School department composed of international members was begun in 1982. Prior to that time such students were assigned to existing classes according to age, sex, etc. Dr. Bevie Sanders and Margaret Johnston were elected to serve as teachers. As we recruited dedicated Christians, our numbers began to grow.

Dr. Truett Thompson, his wife Ruth, and Mark and Barbara Rentz provided stellar leadership for ICOM throughout the 1990s.  The Lord brought Dr. Thompson home to heaven in 1996, and Mark and Barbara felt called to another ministry in 1999.  Currently, Dr. Eugene Clay, who is also Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Arizona State University, is leading ICOM in a study of the Acts of the Apostles, an early history of the Christian community found in the New Testament.  The class uses the Today's English Version of the Bible, a translation made especially for readers whose native language is not English.  In memory of Dr. Thompson, every new member of ICOM receives a copy of this translation of the Bible, so that everyone can read and understand the  text
