History of International Wives and Friends
Fellowship
The International Wives and Friends Fellowship began in 1975 to serve wives and friends of International Students. The Purpose of the group is to help you with your English skills, to learn about your country and customs, and to share with you things that might be helpful to you during our stay in America. The International Wives and Friends Fellowship relies on the BSM for meeting space and publicity while ladies from COM and other local churches plan and lead weekly activities. The ASU International office provides prospect lists and additional publicity. there are similar organizations at colleges and universities all over the nation. Our Tempe group began in the mid-1970's when a group of women including Virginia felt called to establish a friendship group with local internationals. Since then the group has been meeting weekly at the ASU Baptist Student Mission. Countries represented over the years include Columbia, Japan, Vietnam, Norway, Korea, Taiwan, Canada, Panama, Egypt, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, France, Scotland, Iran, Zambia, Chile, Bangladesh, Palestine and China. Typical activities include language studies, crafts, American and foreign cooking, sharing of holiday traditions, and visits to museums and other places of interest.
