History of International Wives and Friends Fellowship

    The International Wives and Friends Fellowship began in 1975 to serve wives

and friends of International Students. The Purpose of  the group is to help you

with your English skills, to learn about your country and customs, and to share

with you things that might be helpful to you during our stay in America.

    The International Wives and Friends Fellowship relies on the BSM for meeting

space and publicity while ladies from COM and other local churches plan and

lead weekly activities.  The ASU International office provides prospect lists and

additional publicity. there are similar organizations at colleges and universities

all over the nation.

     Our Tempe group began in the mid-1970's when a group of women including

Virginia felt called to establish a friendship group with local internationals.

Since then the group has been meeting weekly at the ASU Baptist Student Mission.

Countries represented over  the years include Columbia, Japan, Vietnam, Norway,

Korea, Taiwan, Canada, Panama, Egypt, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, France,

Scotland, Iran, Zambia, Chile, Bangladesh, Palestine and China.

    Typical activities include language studies, crafts, American and

foreign cooking, sharing of holiday traditions, and visits to museums and other

places of interest. Attendances has fluctuated from 6 to 35  international wives

and friends.
